How are Decorating Fabrics different than other types of fabric?
Home Decorating Fabrics are designed for use as upholstery fabric, drapery fabric, slipcover fabric, cushions and curtain fabric.

1. Home Decorating Fabrics are more durable than home sewing or quilting weight fabrics and meet the strength tests of the upholstery industry.
2. Home Decorating Fabrics are substantially more color fast than quilting weight cottons. Although, home decorating cotton prints can withstand a certain amount of direct sunlight, we recommend lining all draperies and curtains to prolong the life of the fabric.
3. Most Decorating Fabrics are 54" wide.
4. Most decorating fabrics are finished with a soil resistant finish.

Should I use Outdoor Fabric for a slipcover in direct sunlight?
Outdoor fabrics are definitely more color fast than cotton prints. In some instances where fading has been a problem, Sun and Shade, Sunweather or Sunbrella outdoor fabric might be a wise choice.

Should I prewash my decorating fabric?

All cotton fabrics will shrink the first time they are washed. If you plan to wash your finished product (curtain, pillow, slipcover), you should wash your fabric before you sew it. Dry Cleaning is a recommended option. Always wash your fabrics separately and do not use harsh detergents or bleach.
